Waves in Autumn

A powerful sound and a powerful message coalesce with the band known as Waves in Autumn. Hailing from Bergamo, Italy, the metalcorers set themselves up for a significant 2024 with the release of their “Wildheart” single at the end of 2023. The song features the contributions of Ready, Set, Fall’s Christopher Volpi and is featured on Waves in Autumn’s soon-to-be-released new EP Burning Season. Their Northern Italian surroundings heavily inspire the group. This beauty and power is an enveloping presence and has spawned this thought-provoking, potent brand of metalcore.

The band views nature as a gift not to be taken for granted. Their music explores the human race’s corrosive effect on both the planet and each other. Waves in Autumn employs vivid storytelling, a progressive, forward approach that is not afraid to say real things about real issues. Truth and betterment are the cornerstones of their music, motivating them. The band seeks to act as an agent of change rather than just naysayers who sound the alarm but are unwilling to actually step up to the plate.

With Waves in Autumn becoming a well-established act in their native Italy, they join us today to count down their top ten emerging heavy bands from their homeland.

1. SLUGGORE

“If you like raw, violent shows, caveman riffs and guttural noises, this band will suit you perfectly. We had the pleasure of sharing the stage with this death-grind powerhouse last December and our singer had his shoulder dislocated in their mosh pit. It’s been years since we didn’t see something like this project touring across our country and they’re definitely raising the bar for our scene!”

2. Shading

“Melodic, powerful, intricate songs for sci-fi lovers. Shading are an amazing act born around Venice, pioneers of our progressive metalcore scene. If you like Northlane and Tesseract you must give them a listen. They also worked with Northlane’s producer for their latest releases.”

3. Despite Exile

“We can easily call them a war machine. Fast, technical, mastodonic wall of sound, yet with uplifting and reverbed atmospheres. Their craft is something that we are more than proud to suggest you. This band has one of the most solid fanbases we’ve seen in Italy but it’s not by chance. They’re experienced musicians with British, European and Japanese tours to their name. Their singer Jei Doublerice is hands down the best in our country. He also filled in for Bleed From Within on few dates last summer!”

4. Stain The Canvas

“This band brought fresh air to our music landscape with their debut back in 2020. Their currently signed to American label Thriller Records, proving their musicianship release by release since they started, working tirelessly with their manager Adam (Ohwly Management) who’s a friend of us and helped us a lot with his experience many times.”

5. Elyne

“Another metalcore powerhouse under the Ohwly team. We had pleasure of sharing the stage a couple of times and every concert they delivered the energy that each fan of metalcore is willing to witness by going to a show. Check out their latest endeavour IDENTITY if you need new bangers for your breakdowns-filled playlist.”

6. Prospective

“This one is another must listen for the djent-kids. Fresh, chaotic, and sturdy songs produced by top tier musicians, intense live shows for the likes of Erra, Currents, and similar American djent acts. Their latest album Reasons to Live is an incredible master piece with some not so often-heard quality.”

7. Defamed

“Raised from the ashes of iconic Italian deathcore band Drown in Sulphur, this band is as good as you can imagine if you knew the band they used to play in before. They’re about to bring this new project live soon at WE ARE DEATHCORE festival in Milan next March and we can’t wait to see their comeback! Drown in Sulphur is still active with a new formation, by the way, check their new stuff too.”

8. Jorelia

“Beatdown hardcore took its place as the new wave of extreme music since Knocked Loose released Laugh Tracks in 2016. These young friends brought this ’90s revival to our country  with its typical DIY attitude. They are proving that new generations can easily drop everyone’s in a fatal mosh pit with slow, evil, raging riffs, twisting it with the nu-metal influence that both younger and older audiences need. Our singer was featured in their first 2020 EP and their new stuff is getting heavier and heavier!”

9. Dead Like Juliet

“High-energy songs with vigorous chants and choruses. Their influences are similar to ours and though this could create some kind of jealousy for some musicians, we see it as an inspiration instead and we really hope to share the same stage one day!”

10. Inverno

“A new project created by experienced musicians, which features Lacuna Coil’s guitarist, a beautiful blend of post-metal atmospheres and heavy metalcore. They start with an high level musicianship and that could be enough to be worth a listen, but truth is that they’re also giving original flavour to the Italian landscape!”
