Angel Face Release Debut Album and New 7″ via Slovenly Recordings
Slovenly Recordings continues the bleeding with their last release of 2023 coming from the Tokyo quartet Angel Face.

The history of garage punk rock n’ roll in Japan is nothing short of respectable and noteworthy in its impact across the Western world. Kurt Cobain’s fandom of Shonen Knife helped the trio gain notoriety across the United States, and Goner Records kicked into gear after label boss Eric Friedl’s trip to Bellingham, WA, for the Garage Shock festival, which led him to bear witness to the sonic adversity of Guitar Wolf. Then there’s Teengenerate, born from the ashes of American Soul Spiders and whose wild n’ raw recordings and high-octane gigs made their transcontinental way to the American mainland and into the ears of some of the genre’s notable labels with Estrus, Crypt, SFTRI, and Dioyniusius releasing the quartet’s music in their three-year run. Safe to say, the Far East can bleed some ears over here.
Slovenly Recordings continues the bleeding with their last release of 2023 coming from the Tokyo quartet Angel Face, in the form of a debut album and their second 7″ release of the year. Comprising four rock n’ roll lifers, including Fink from Teengenerate and Toyozo from The Fadeaways, Angel Face cuts close to the primitive sounding same cloth as their prior bands. And why not? Raw power rock n’ roll has worked for them in the past, and Fink still acknowledges via email that popular music in Japan still sucks anyhow.
You can follow Angel Face on Instagram and X with preorders of the new record and single running through Slovenly Recordings. Catch them live in their homeland during the dates below.
