LACES – “None of You” [Song Review]
Echoing the sensations of real life, “None of You” exposes the depleted sense of self following the failure of a relationship.
Indie-pop singer-songwriter LACES releases her new single, “None of You,” a song about the emotional vacuum in the aftermath of an abortive relationship.
LACES explains, “‘None of You’ is about the feeling you get when you leave a relationship or situationship with half of yourself and none of the person you were involved with. How do you move on when you are forever changed?”
The solo project of Jessica Vaughn, who, as Charlotte Sometimes, signed with a major label and achieved success until she came face to face with the dark side of the music industry, LACES’ music spans the spectrum from compellingly edgy to subtly warm.
As Jessica Vaughn, she writes and produces music for Hasbro cartoons, like Jem & the Holograms, Baby Alive, Littlest Pet Shop, and Equestria Girls. Her music appears in series and films, and she writes for other artists.
“None of You” rolls out on syncopated, rumbling percussion topped by a starkly murky piano. A luminous topline infuses the melody with expectant colors as LACES’ poignant vocals imbue the lyrics with deep-seated passion. Radiant vocal harmonies add aching, almost crying tones, highlighting the intense mood of the song.
Echoing the sensations of real life, “None of You” exposes the depleted sense of self following the failure of a relationship.
