Decent Criminal Premiere Their NYC-Filmed Music Video for “You Dog”

Sometimes, you just need to mellow out, and here to lend you a hand with that is Decent Criminal. The Northern California band today unveils their new music video for “You Dog,” off their May released full-length record There’s More To It Than Climbing. The video matches the song’s tone, shot over a night in New York City.

It was lead singer and guitarist Tristan Martinez’s idea to take a trip through landmarks and locations important to him over his six months living in New York City. Between 10 pm and noon the next day, they shot as much footage as possible. It’s a slice of life in New York City and the type of video that will conjure up good memories.

In reference to the song itself, Martinez tells us:

“‘You Dog’ I think is pretty relatable for anyone that’s been in a toxic situation that involves infidelity. Keeping things from someone, recognizing behaviour in another having been there in your past. The video is about that place. Filmed and edited by ourselves.”

Joining Tristan as the focal point of Decent Criminal is his brother, Hunter Martinez. They have concocted this distinctive, original sound like no other that borrows inspiration from so many time periods. Some of their largest influences include pop, guitar rock, 1970s glam, ’90s alternative, and surf punk.

They have been quite active with releases since 2017, but the band’s origins go back to 2014. In fact, the Martinez brothers actually took what was already a touring act and rebuilt it to their liking. They developed a new sound and found new musicians, with Hunter the only original member. With new bandmates and a new musical style, Decent Criminal has plenty of good vibes to dole out.
