Julia Calvin Rises Above the Negativity On ‘Ego’

Julia Calvin is a Costa Rican / US American songwriter and recording artist based in Los Angeles, California. Over the last few years she’s created a steady flow of commercially excellent pop singles, multiple of which have been highly accoladed, including her 2019 song “Mi Amor” which was the winner of BMI Foundation’s Peermusic Latin Scholarship Award.

However, her latest single “Ego” brings a whole new flavor. It’s the first song Julia Calvin has released entirely in Spanish. In her words, “I’m very excited to represent my Hispanic heritage more explicitly through my music. It’s about responding to people who have looked down on me for being different, or for the music I make, and letting them know I’m content and unaffected.”

I don’t engage with their negativity, not because I’m scared, but because the energy we put out into the world comes back around to us, so I just keep living my life and let karma do its thing.

Sonically, “Ego” continues Julia’s trend of top-notch commercial viability in her music, infused with fiery soul and intentionality. After all, the hook line on “Ego” translates as: keep throwing coal on the fire. And that’s what Julia Calvin continues to do in the best way with each new single.
