Carving one’s own path in life is one of its greatest accomplishments. For a comedy career, the typical path to success has proven to work time and again. A comedian typically works out material in small rooms, networks with people in the industry, and prays that one of the major platforms picks up your special.

That plan has proven to be a successful model hundreds of times over. However, not all models fit all paths. Standup comedian, podcaster, and teller of stories Dan Cummins disregarded that traditional method of success and decided that being a present father was more important than his career. And because of that, Cummins found success not through someone else’s doing but his own.

Dan was a recent guest on The Barn Podcast, in which he discussed his atypical approach to success, his background in psychology, and how Idaho influenced his comedy.
