Voodoo Drummer Unveils the Experimental New Single “Drunk Dionysus”
Athene, Greece’s experimental artist, Voodoo Drummer, unveils his latest composition, “Drunk Dionysus,” featuring cellist Stavros Parginos and Mamadou Diabate on the balafon.
Athene, Greece’s experimental artist, Voodoo Drummer, unveils his latest composition, “Drunk Dionysus,” featuring cellist Stavros Parginos and Mamadou Diabate on the balafon. In the song, the God of wine, theatre, fertility, and ritual insanity, the notorious libertine himself, Dionysus, is just drunk as usual!
According to the artist, “Inspired by his ancestors, he has created an Afro-Dionysian experimental piece where weird Cello voices dance on top of a unique combination of odd rhythms, followed by a swinging version of a 9/8 Greek dance. Therein enters the Balafon master Mamadou Diabate from Burkina Faso (West Africa).”
The single follows the band’s previous experimental, instrumental cover of Pink Floyd’s “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” in 7/8 Greek rhythm.
