Fresh from the announcement last month that 2023 would see metalcore kings Killswitch Engage and thrash legends Megadeth headlining Bloodstock Open Air, organisers have weighed in with a hellishy impressive new announcement in time for Halloween.

Firstly, landing the Friday special guest slot on the Ronnie James Dio stage goes to Swedish metal luminaries In Flames. The band recently released a music for new track, “Foregone Pt. 1”, taken from their forthcoming album, Foregone due in February 2023.

Saturday’s RJD main stage special guest slot sees the return of the mighty Anthrax. The band recently laid waste to the UK on a headline tour after 2021 marked the band’s 40th Anniversary. Prepare for an evening of metal thrashing madness when the band make their return to Catton Hall in August.

Also grabbing main stage slots on Sunday are Brazilian metal icons Sepultura, who recently played an incredible set at this year’s Rock In Rio together with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and Cali alt rock squad Ugly Kid Joe, who release their new album, Rad Wings Of Destiny later this month.

Headlining the Sophie Lancaster big top stage on Friday are deathcore frontrunners Whitechapel while Florida heavy rock squad Nonpoint, and Norwegian folk metal maniacs Trollfest also join the bill on Friday.

NY hardcore legends Biohazard are set to headline Sunday night on the Sophie stage, with their original line up while also landing a Sunday slot are retro rockers Church of the Cosmic Skull.

In addition, the grass roots music-supporting Metal 2 The Masses 2023 programme is underway where self-released or unsigned bands can win a slot at Bloodstock 2023. Full details of venues and who to contact to enter in each region, can be found here or on Facebook.

Poster for Bloodstock 2023

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
