We’re now into festival season here in the UK and with Slam Dunk just gone and Download Festival and Bloodstock Open Air ahead of us, plenty of bands are making the most of their time in the UK by booking their own shows and here are just five bands who we recommend checking out.

1. Sum 41
Although All Time Low headlined Slam Dunk recently, there are no better exponents of pop-punk in our eyes than Sum 41 at their peak as you’ll discover if you check out one of their upcoming headline shows.

06/23 – EXETER – Castle Session
06/24 – LEICESTER – De Monfort Hall
06/25 – GLASGOW – O2 Academy
06/26 – MANCHESTER – O2 Victoria Warehouse

Check out some classic Sum 41 in the form of “Fat Lip”:

2. Will Haven
It’s been an absolute age since Sacramento bruisers Will Haven graced these shores and, judging by the venues their playing, their upcoming visit to the UK will be nothing short of crushing.

06/24 – MILTON KEYNES – Crauford Arms
06/25 – BOURNEMOUTH – Anvil
06/26 – LONDON – 229

Need evidence of how crushing these shows will be? Check out Will Haven’s “Hewed With The Brand” video:

3. Fever 333
06/17 – GLASGOW – Cathouse
06/18 – LONDON – Electric Ballroom

We’ll say nothing about why you HAVE to see this band, this video explains that:

4. Sumo Cyco
The Canadian punks make their Download Festival this month and are playing a bunch of must-see shows ahead of their slaying of Download.

06/07 – SWANSEA – Bunkhouse
06/08 – STAFFORD – Redrum
06/09 – BRIDGEWATER – The Cobblestones
06/10 – BOURNEMOUTH – Anvil
06/12 – GLASGOW – Attic
06/13 – LIVERPOOL – EBGB’s

5. I Prevail
Another Download act, Detroit’s I Prevail will play three headline shows following their main stage performance at this years festival, all in support of their rockin’ new album Trauma.

06/17 – GLASGOW – SWG3
06/18 – MANCHESTER – O2 Ritz
06/20 – LONDON – Electric Ballroom

Check out I Prevail’s powerful new video for “Breaking Down” ahead of their must-see shows in June:

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
