Thanks to the combined efforts of two bands from the east coast of Canada, we’re offering up a hearty serving of new Canuck Metal! Now streaming just below in its entirety, feast upon the premiere of the Graveyard of the Gulf split by Newfoundland’s Deadgaard and Nova Scotia’s Orchid’s Curse. Officially out as of Saturday, July 7th, you can get your pre-order on via Bandcamp here. The album will also be supported by a brief east coast tour with information about the five shows also available below.
The title (and themes) from which the eight-track album takes its name comes from some damn treacherous waters located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence between Cape Breton and Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. In this very area, over the past 400 years, some 350+ ships have been dragged to their watery graves. A crazy fact indeed, and one that makes for some great musical fodder.
Commenting on the new album and above-mentioned ship facts, Orchid’s Curse said:
“After two successful trips to St. John’s, Newfoundland we fell in love with the city, the people and their incredible metal scene. It was an easy decision to do an album with local, heavy metal staples Deadgaard and we can’t wait for you to hear the ‘Graveyard of the Gulf’ split. If you’re in Halifax, Moncton, Fredericton or St. John’s we hope to see you this July!
The guys in Deadgaard also added:
“We are absolutely stoked on releasing this split with Orchid’s Curse. Although we are both different genres, we feel as that the songs blend perfectly. It was a super fun project to work on and we can’t wait for people to hear it. Along with the album we figured it would be the perfect time to finally get our asses off this island and play for other audiences in Atlantic Canada. We are gonna bring it.”
