UnCovered: Undead Corporation Discuss the Dark Cover Artwork for New Album ‘No Antidote’
Tokyo, Japan’s female-fronted metalcore monsters, Undead Corporation discuss their new album’s evil cover artwork for our And Justice For Art series, “UnCovered”.
Self-released on October 4th, 2017, the ten-track No Antidote is the latest studio recording from Tokyo, Japan’s male and female-fronted metalcore monsters, Undead Corporation. Just as dark and heavy as they are melodic, we’re in love with the tunes and were stoked to have bassist Shachou discuss the new album’s evil cover artwork for our And Justice For Art series, “UnCovered”.
Your new album cover is crazy-cool. Tell us about the artist and how you found him/her?
Shachou: Thank you. The first design idea didn’t work really well, so a friend of mine introduced the actual designer to us because he is a talented and passionate designer.
Did the artist who did the cover art hear the album before hand? Or, what kind of input did you give him/her?
Shachou: Of course I let him listen to the album before. He liked it and got really fast a clear image how our album artwork should look like. With Akemi‘s face, as my basic idea, he created a very horror-like artwork, using different colors and effects.
Have you ever purchased an album solely because of its album artwork? If yes, did the music live up to the artwork?
Shachou: No I haven’t. Artworks are for sure important for a first impression, but what really counts is the music content.
With the increasing popularity of digital music, most fans view artwork as just pixels on a screen. Why did you feel the artwork was important?
Shachou: Even if they’re just might be pixels, they anyway affect the eye and stimulate our sense for the atmosphere. This time we choose a dark artwork which fits to our album. It gives a bigger touch of the dark atmosphere. If we would have chosen a pop/colorful image, it maybe wouldn’t get the same dark atmosphere.
When people look at the album cover artwork, what do you want them to see/think?
Shachou: I want that they are impressed and think “that’s cool, i want listen to it.”
Do you prefer having the most creative control when you get a project, or do you prefer when the band gives you a lot of input?
Shachou: I never really thought about it. But most of the time I create the songs by myself.
Was the album art influenced by any of the themes explored on the band’s album?
Shachou: Yes. The main theme is dark and hate, but also anger and a little bit dirty. 😉
Try and not get addicted to the band’s song via the “Get Em Up” video.
