Brussels, Belgium is home to the three-piece post-punk trio known as Animal Youth who, on May 27, 2017, released their debut album Animal. (Purchase your own copy via Weyrd Son Records.) Equal parts dark and romantic, the guys’ sound is captivating and creative. We partnered up with the band to debut their new retro music video for the single “You Don’t Know Love”.
The band hit us up with an exclusive comment on the song and video, saying:
“When we started working on the video for ‘You Don’t Know Love’, we’ve been asking ourselves about the aesthetic we wanted to give and what would fit the best to the topic and story of the song. All we knew is that we didn’t want to give it a look we see everywhere nowadays with all those videos looking like mineral water commercials shot with 4K cameras and drones. A friend who’s a director showed us those images he shot with a DV camera a while ago and it was like a revelation! This grain and old fashioned definition reminded me of old ’90s soap operas and that’s exactly what we were seeking for. The image itself has received a very minimal manipulation, in order to keep this ‘altered sharpness’ only DV can transcribe. We thought it was swimming against the tide and that’s precisely what we wanted.”
