Even though it’s been merely a year since his last release, multi-platinum recording artist k-os has delivered yet another glorifying mixtape. His first mixtape, The Anchorman Mixtape (2010) brought us hits featuring Drake and Saukrates. On Views from the Stix, k-os teams up with Toronto’s own Kardinal Offishall and Shad, as well as Canadian producers Kaytranada and Boi-1da.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…is this a spoof of Drake’s Views? Although those were also my thoughts, k-os insists that it is not, “There has always been this push and pull as to what is the more authentic hip-hop viewpoint. Is it only going to be urban city life? Or can hip-hop be authentic no matter where you live? To me, the stix is really just anywhere outside of that conventional city life.”

Views from the Stix was completed in only three weeks at k-os’ family’s home north of Whitby, Ontario. It boasts a track list of 15 songs, each averaging two minutes in length. Compiled into one recording on SoundCloud, each track creatively blends with the next. I think this mixtape is a 37-minute masterpiece. k-os truly has a unique way of blending genres. Even though he is categorized as a hip-hop artist, he goes above and beyond.

The blend between each track and sound of each track is orchestrated so beautifully and is definitely worth 37-minutes of your time.
