Black Dawn are a hard rock/metal quartet – Matt Kotten (lead guitar, vox), Tom Kelly (rhythm guitar), James Lane (bass), Enzo DiPaolo (drums) – from Long Island, New York who have been writing, recording, and performing together since 1996, with zero line-up changes. We’ll delve into their history below, but first, if you haven’t already, check out the stream/free download combo of their new song “I Wanna Fly”.
With their musical influences listed as Godsmack, Staind, Breaking Benjamin, Five Finger Death Punch, and Three Days Grace, its easy to identify hints of these bands in their sound. That being said, Black Dawn are by no means simply aping these acts and instead have created their own distinct hard rock/metal concoction that allows for them to be identified as them. With several albums under their belts, 2014’s EP, Until We Meet, is their latest and greatest, at least until the release of their forthcoming full-length due in late 2015.
