Faz Couri, bassist of the London-based hard rock act In Search Of Sun, recently took a moment to sit down and chat with me about his numerous tattoos. The band is preparing to drop their debut CD on October 7th and you can sample their rocking music below. Here is how the conversation went.

When, where and what was your first tattoo?
Couri: Chinese letters on my right forearm dunno what they mean but that’s all part of the fun.

Do any of your tattoos have a particularly special meaning behind them? If so, do share man!
Couri: The tattoo on my right leg of a pint of Guinness represents the internal struggle we all have in dealing with death. The crude lines show how wayward our path in life can be and the un-finished shading represents the sense of emptiness within our souls.

Do you have a specific shop or artist that you frequent (insert shameless plug time!)?
Couri: My lovely girlfriend Rachel Cavalier @Cavalier_tattoo, at Tattoo Shed in Hemel Hempstead.

Do you have any new tattoos planned or underway? Give us the dirt dude!
Couri: Currently filling in the gaps on my arms with… well whatever the hell I can think of, today I’m thinking a mechanical spider just above the elbow; hopefully she can squeeze that in before I change my mind.

Have you seen any fans with a band tattoo, anything crazy memorable?
Couri: YES!!! A fan (and great bloke) in Cardiff had a “Driven” tattoo, about 2 months later we changed our name to In Search of Sun, lesson learned I suppose but he’s a good sport and didn’t attempt to murder us when we stayed at his house.

We know you have one… tell us about that stoned/drunken joke-tattoo you once got…
Couri: When you live with a tattooist and above a tattoo shop you’d think I’d have more of these, LOL. The last time was “hey, how about a skull with top hat smoking a spliff,” 2 hours later I had exactly that.

Do you have any tattoos that you now hate, want to replace, or have covered up, and why?
Couri: Well… yeah actually the Chinese letters, but only because I want the rest of my right arm with Egyptian stuff, I’ve quite enjoyed telling people it means “No. 53 with beef.”

Have any tattoos that were painful. Like made you cry, see white light, and regret being born?
Couri: No.

If you HAD to get someone’s face tattooed on you, who’s would it be and why?
Couri: I would get Adam (Leader)’s face on my face, so I could pretend to be the singer from In Search Of Sun.
