American Sharks – “American Sharks” [Album Review]
The new self-titled disc from American Sharks is a super-fuzzy, stoner rock record with a healthy dose of punk thrown in for good measure. I like the punk influences as they add a nice bit of speed, aggression, and attitude – something not commonly found on other releases in this genre. American Sharks boasts lots of meaty riffs that smack you upside the head like a sledgehammer while Mike Hardin’s raw, commanding vocals finish you off with a one-two punch.

Even though there is enough pep to keep your head banging and your foot tapping, the length of the tunes was sort of problematic for me. As soon as I started getting into the tunes they were literally over; the longest track on the disc is a mere 2:51 and the opener, “Iron Lungs,” clocks in at just 1:29. Disappointing! Overall though American Sharks is a solid effort and a super fun listen; it should go a long way to making the band more of a household name in the genre.
