Hell or Highwater – “The Other Side” [EP] [Album Review]
I was expecting something energetic, more along the lines of Begin Again, but I just don’t see that here.
The Other Side is the newest release from Hell or Highwater, a band fronted by Atreyu drummer Brandon Saller. I have been a fan of these guys since they released their debut, Begin Again, a few years back and I was really looking forward to checking this one out.
The disc starts off with, “Moments Of Clarity,” one of the two harder, edgier songs and what I feel is the highlight of the CD. It works off a cool, catchy riff and begs to be played at high volumes. Unfortunately, the rest of the album does not follow suit. Aside from “Wrong”, I found myself a bit disappointed as the remaining tracks don’t seem to really go anywhere, at least not for me (and they definitely are not all that memorable).
I was expecting something energetic, more along the lines of Begin Again, but I just don’t see that here. Sure the songs are all decent and somewhat catchy, but they seem almost generic and are a bit too commercial for my liking.
The Other Side Track Listing:
01. Moment Of Clarity
02. The Other Side
03. Wrong
04. Remembering The Life And Not The Death
05. Drowning In The Waves
Run Time: 20:52
Release Date: August 6, 2013
