Pierce The Veil – “Collide With The Sky” [Album Review]
They have a unique way of blending pop-infused post-hardcore with a progressive metal sound that is adventurous and oftentimes surprising; with sudden tempo changes, acoustic guitar parts and driving rhythms that keep you guessing what’s next to come.
Over the last few years Pierce The Veil has sort of become my guilty pleasure. I’m a long-time metal head. I like things hard and heavy and really have no patience or time for 99 percent of the post-hardcore/emo punk bands that have flooded the market over the last few years; I would just assume to leave that to the teenagers and high schoolers who seem to eat that stuff up. A few years ago though, I was turned onto Pierce The Veil’s sophomore disc, Selfish Machines and as unlikely as it was, I became a fan.
Fast forward to the group’s latest release, Collide With The Sky, and once again I am totally digging their sound. They have a unique way of blending pop-infused post-hardcore with a progressive metal sound that is adventurous and oftentimes surprising; with sudden tempo changes, acoustic guitar parts and driving rhythms that keep you guessing what’s next to come. Front man Vic Fuentes’ vocals are so powerful and emotionally charged that at times the passion is almost palpable. In a musical landscape that is filled with watered down clones, Collide With The Sky is a fresh, vibrant and innovative offering that is more than enjoyable.
