The Brains: “A Mound of Monsterous Montreal Music”
The Brains are a killer, seven year old psychobilly punk band from Montreal, Canada. It’s truly quite amazing how such a crazy sound can come out of just three instruments: the bass, guitar and drums. Though often classified as straight up psychobilly or rockabilly, The Brains are really more at the hardcore end of the rockabilly music scale; it’s like punk with a serious twist.

A while ago this band rolled through my quiet mountain town bringing with them their loud, creepy yet creative music. I recall I was intent on calling it an early night, but then The Brains took the stage with their zombie makeup and the whole bar got their dance on. I did not regret staying late because they put on a super performance and seriously rocked my socks off.
The band recently released their third and self-titled album The Brains which won the best punk album of the year award at Montreal’s la gamiq. Rounded out with their newest member, Colin The Dead, The Brains are currently away from global touring and instead are recording a new album slated to release in 2010. Since their inception, the group has had the fortune of sharing the stage with acts like Rancid, The Creepshow, The Planet Smashers, Mad Sin and the Matadors. Thankfully, plans to tour Canada, USA and Europe in 2010 are already in the works. [ END ]
