Only Through the Pain is the newest release from platinum-selling recording artists TRAPT. From the very first track “Wasteland” the listener is greeted with an extremely well-produced, fantastic-sounding record. From start to finish the band holds nothing back as they lay down their trademark infectious grooves combined with catchy riffs and emotionally laden vocals.

Only Through the Pain is the band’s third release and it is good to see them improving on an already good thing. The songwriting has matured and in the tradition of the great storyteller/songwriters TRAPT has crafted a series of songs and stories that the listener will immediately identify with because of their universal familiarity. The songs are built around the complicated relationships each one of us experiences on a regular basis.

This is especially apparent on the tune “Black Rose” where vocalist Chris Taylor Brown leaves nothing back as he sings, “I am not the one who hurt you so why are you so scared?/All that you have been put through couldn’t be repaired/I’m not the one who hurt, I am the one who cares/You’ll need someone to turn to and I will not be there.” Personal favorites of mine are “Cover Up” and the hard rocker “Contagious” both of which have earned regular rotation in my CD player.

Bottom line, Only Through the Pain is a great record from a great band that we are sure to hear a lot more from in the very near future.  [ END ]
