Album Review
Sever Your Ties
Safety In The Sea (07.08.2008)
Sever Your Ties’ debut album Safety In The Sea is a killer at that. Chalk full of harsh vocals, loud and gritty guitar riffs, pounding drum rolls, and exhilarating music all around, this is one to not be missed. The musical future of this band should be safe in the sea, on the mainland, and even in the air.
“Here I Am” has a very interesting introduction. I find it interesting because it is a bass/guitar riff that I would never think to use myself, it isn’t pretty sounding, nor is it ugly, it is somewhere in-between. After the unique-style intro the band breaks into traditional post-hardcore style: trashy vocals, simple guitar riffs, and a chorus that will stick in just about everyone’s head.
“(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” (originally done by The Blue Oyster Cult) is the last track on the record and Sever Your Ties do a great justice to the original. They bring their own sound to a classic, and they pull it off with skill. Words cannot explain how well they covered this song; do yourself a favour and check it out.
I would like to say THANK YOU to Sever Your Ties for making an album so enjoyable. I have to admit that i was rather skeptical when picking up this CD, but the masters of Safety In The Sea calmed my nerves. [ END ]
