Album Review
Lido Beach
Fake Hellos, Real Goodbyes (11.11.2008)
Alt-Rock act Lido Beach have completed their debut disc, Fake Hellos, Real Goodbyes and are hoping to make their mark on the music scene. Fake Hellos, Real Goodbyes is a high-energy rock album that begs to be played at full volume with the windows down while traveling down the road. Infectious pop-punk with influences ranging from The Beatles, Jimmy Eat World, Green Day and Weezer this disc is immediately listenable and enjoyable with many of the tunes ready-made radio friendly.
Highlights and or personal favorites of mine on this CD include “Used To” and “Never Sinks In” both of which are built around unbelievably catchy riffs acoustic riffs that grab a hold of will have you dancing in no time at all. Other tracks worth mentioning are “I Was Wrong” and “Me Oh My” which is probably the heaviest tune of the collection. While these guys can be classified as a Pop-Punk band, there is also something about it that makes it almost universally appealing.
Overall, Fake Hellos, Real Goodbyes is a good, albeit very short record, (clocking in at just over half an hour) that has been placed into regular rotation on my CD player. If Lido Beach can capture energy in their live show that they have on the Fake Hellos, Real Goodbyes, there will not be space to move on the dance floor. Lido Beach has not necessarily recreated the wheel here but they have created a record that is well worth the price of admission. [ END ]
