A Hope For Home

The Everlasting Man (01.20.2009)

A Hope For Home are a new breed of metal. Hardcore influences incorporated with alternating clean and coarse vocals and rapid fire drumming, this is every metal heads dream. The disc is the band’s Strike First debut and they are clearly out to prove they have what it takes to make it in the music business. By combining a solid core of songs that are full of non-commercial hooks A Hope For Home has created a series of tunes seriously kick ass.

After a brief intro or musical interlude the album kicks into full gear with “Inequity: An Offering” with a crushing breakdown that one could easily imagine being in the pit for. This is followed by “Affliction: The Witness, The Advocate” which chugs along at breakneck speed almost daring you not to bang your head.

There are many great tracks on this eleven-song debut but one that really stood out is the “The Exile” a track that takes you by surprise with an unexpected change in tempo, electronic drums and seamless mix of vocals that have an ethereal quality to them. Strategically placed towards the middle of the disc it is a welcome break for the neck bones but the respite does not last long. The very next track, “Absolution: Of Flight And Failure” strikes like a ton bricks and will have you banging again in no time.

There really isn’t much bad to say about this album, it has strayed in rotation in my player since I received it and it has withstood frequent listening. Pick up this album as soon as you can; you will not be disappointed.  [ END ]
