House of Lords

I am a fan of all types of music and I must admit that back in the day I was a huge fan of Eighties ‘Hair Bands’, I mean huge. Truth be told, I still dig some good old ‘Big Hair’ every now and then. I know, they were a dime a dozen and most were not really groundbreaking musically, but for the most part they were lot of fun and offered an escape.

Twenty something years later, many of the bands I am referring to are either releasing new CDs, touring again, or both, which can be either a good or a bad thing, but more often than not ends up being unremarkable and or lackluster. Such is not the case with House of Lords, a band I was quite fond of back then.

House Of Lords released their first disc in 1988 and now have just released their latest disc, Come To My Kingdom, on Blistering Records. I know a lot of Eighties bands were, and still are, very trendy but these guys are a bit different and stand out a bit above the rest. Yes the trademark Eighties, massive melodies and harmonies are in here as well as a fair amount of keyboards, but the tunes are catchy and well written and the production on this is quite good as well.

Come To My Kingdom is a big, crisp sounding record. Sure, a lot of the tunes are predictable and extremely familiar but the singer’s voice is good, the background vocals are excellent and the guitars are enjoyable. House Of Lords has combined all of these elements successfully and created a better than average Pop-Metal album that easily surpasses most of their peers.  [ END ]
