4-Way Diablo (11.06.2007)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and after receiving 4-Way Diablo, the newest release from Monster Magnet, I would tend to agree. Picture this, two naked chics riding large snakes while precariously perched on the face of what I assume is a demon head floating in space… but wait there is more… the whole bunch of them, the demon head and the girls, are surrounded by rockets and skulls. They had me at the naked women! At first glance, without even playing the disc I was sold. I am not sure what the significance is but, does it even matter? How the hell can you go wrong with naked women, monsters and rockets? Before I even put the disc in the player I had set the bar pretty high with some lofty expectations. I wondered if the music would live up to the artwork.

The answer is a great big Hell Yeah! According to the bio; “A lot of the songs you hear on 4-Way Diablo were one-takes where we only had to touch up few little mistakes.” This CD is, I believe the way Rock and Roll should be, unpolished and rough around the edges, I think it makes it more authentic.

I have never been a huge Monster Magnet fan but this disc changed that. Songs such as “Blow Your Mind” and “Slap in The Face” are so good they made me take notice. They are great rocking tunes that I played over and over again at high volume until the neighbors complained and I had to turn it down.

Also included on 4-Way Diablo is a rousing rendition of the Rolling Stones’ classic, “2000 Light Years From Home” to which they add their hallmark sound making it their own. 4-Way Diablo is a very good record definitely worth the price of admission.  [ END ]
