Album Review
Cavalera Conspiracy
Inflikted (03.25.2008)

Metal fans lookout! Max and Igor Cavalera, the founding members of the groundbreaking Brazilian Death Metal band, Sepultura, are back with a vengeance. After a twelve year absence the brothers are together again and have released their new CD, Inflikted on Roadrunner Records. Let me tell you, this is one hell of a disc. After such a long time away from the scene it appears that vocalist Max Cavalera has not lost the biting anger he was so famous for, as a matter of fact he sounds even more pissed off than ever. While the lyrics are a little more scathing, the vocals seem to be a bit more understandable than those from the Sepultura era.
The drums and bass are ferocious as ever and overall this is the classic sound that is well loved by so many; it is the sound that catapulted them to the top of the genre over a decade ago. Inflikted is a dazzling and thunderous display of quintessential Cavalera Brothers. While the band hasn’t deviated from their formula much, their growth as songwriters and musicians over the years is apparent.
Muscular, detailed and pissed off as hell, the music is inexorably heavy with an underlying, unconcealed anger that is readily apparent throughout the disc but is especially evident on the song “Must Kill” where Max screams; “You Must Kill-another-body killed/We must kill-another blood is spilled/You must kill-another soul is ill/we must kill-another life killed.”
This is an ultra-violent album full of aggression, but hey, sometimes a bit of aggression is good for what ails you, it can help you blow off some steam after a long day at the office and that can be a good thing! Inflikted is a long overdue, eagerly awaited CD that I would highly recommend to fans of heavy music. Period! [ END ]
