From Autumn To Ashes fans, be prepared to be overwhelmed. FATA is back with their fourth full-length album, Holding A Wolf By The Ears. After seven long years, the metalcore maniacs are prepared to step up to the next level and shake the core of the world. With Ben Perri officially gone, the band has a different bond than they did previously, but are indeed ready to unleash their newer, revitalized sound.

The first track on the album is “Deth Kult Social Club,” a great song to kick the album off with. It’s heavy, unique, and full of energy, making for one kick-ass song. The entire band is completely in sync with each other, without a fault or a stutter. It’s almost as if the band had a mental link while recording the track.

“Sensory Deprivation Adventure” is sixth on the disc. The intro is quite interesting, the riff is enticing, and the distortion level is different than most metalcore bands, which gives the band a unique edge over their competition. I don’t know if it’s just me, but the band seems to be using softer vocals throughout most of the tracks. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing; it’s just different from their previous music.

Lastly is “Pioneers.” The intro riff is a little less metalcore and a bit closer to the emo side. The song’s lead riff, however, sounds like something From First to Last would use. As I mentioned before, there is a lot less screaming on this album, which also pushes the band closer to the emo or screamo genres.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the album. They lost their ferocity, changing into one of the softer metalcore bands. Oh well… maybe next time.  [ END ]
