Demiricous

Two (Poverty) (2007)

In only three years, Demiricous has risen from bar band obscurity to touring with Himsa, and gaining the respect of thrash metal kings, Slayer. Not many people can say that truthfully.

Two (Poverty) kicks off with a sick thrash metal track titled “Never Enough Road”. There are some Slayer and Hatebreed elements throughout the song, such as vocal style, breakdowns, and general instrumentation. Now I understand why Slayer respects the band. The entire song is head-bang worthy; I caught myself bobbing along without realizing it. The only thing that can be cleaned up is the fuzzy distortion level, unless that is what the band is going for.

“Language of Oblivion” is the most outstanding song on the album. The track is mostly thrash, but also has a death metal influence, including blast-beat drumming. The bridge is by far the heaviest segment—palm mutes, with a succession of open power chords, followed very closely by a shred solo.

Another mind-numbing track is “Acid Lung”, which, believe it or not, has a touch of post-hardcore. There aren’t a lot of vocals in this song. I guess the main point of the track is to show what the band is capable of instrumentally. The solo has a classic metal style, and would entice almost any metal fan.

Despite many fans claims, Demiricous is just a made up word with no meaning whatsoever. Regardless, I would be incredibly stoked to see Demiricous here in Toronto. I take that back. I AM incredibly stoked for the next time they hit Toronto! Keep rockin’ guys.  [ END ]
