The Matches

This review is going to go out to the person who first introduced me to The Matches… a very good friend of mine by the name of Superstar C!

Honourable mentions on the disc are John Feldman and his supertastic production skills, and Mark Hoppus for writing credits on one of the tracks “The Barbers Unhappiness.”

The reason why I love the label Epitaph is that they always seem to consistently offer really good bands; I think more than half of my CD collection is of Epitaph artists!

The Matches are ones of those bands who can create an amazing CD. Their sound is fresh; it’s electronica rock and has its pop rock moments. The production on the disc is virtually flawless and Feldman damn well knows a thing or two about production.

Vocally they really remind me of Hot Hot Heat. My favourite track off this release has got to be “Lazier Than Furniture.” Why? Because it’s fast-paced and reminds me of Ashley McIsaac on speed.

The lyrics have a more mature undertone from their previous release and their sound has definitely gone in a different direction. This is a totally creative album that rocks! Hopefully fans will follow the direction this release has taken.

Of all The Matches’ tunes, “Chain Me Free” from their previous disc is my all time fav. Off this album my favourite is “Shoot Me in the Smile.”

If you’re sick of the scene, which currently seems to be mostly “Metalcore,” then pick up this disc… this very ambitious release.
