Album Review
Analog Digital Disorder (A.D.D.)
Elements of Emptiness (2006)

From the day of its muddled inception, Metal has been evolving into new, interesting, and at time freaky sub-genres, ultimately creating a huge variety from which to choose. A.D.D, a Chicago-based quintet, is one of these bands that appears to be aiding (and instrumental) in the evolution of Metal. Now I know what a lot of readers are thinking… “ADD? The mental illness?” Well A.D.D. does not just stand for a mental illness anymore… in the case of this band it stands for Analog Digital Disorder. That being said, A.D.D consists of Margaret (vocals), Dave (guitar), Jeremy (guitar), Randy (bass), Ron (drums). Now let’s check out the album!
I don’t really know if you’d be able to consider this disc an album or an EP, considering it has 7 tracks, too little for an album, but too many for an EP… sort of.
Anyways, first up on the CD is “The Path.” Right away I linked the band to Sevendust… immediately after the first few notes were strummed. But as much as the music style is similar to Sevendust, the vocal style is insanely alike Heart, the ‘70s band. The only thing that disappointed me a little bit in this track is that it’s a little difficult to pinpoint what the bass is doing. I guess his volume wasn’t turned up enough for the recording.
Fourth up is “Can’t Breathe.” It sounds to me as if the song is about hating somebody to the point where you find it difficult to breathe. I’m sure almost everybody has felt like they can’t breathe, just because somebody’s being a dick to them. I love the lyrics and vocals to this track; they’re soothing, mellow, and easy to listen to. The instrumental is slow and soothing up until the bridge when the guitars drop down on the neck, and the music gets HEAVY! By far, this is the best track on the disc!
Overall, the disc was produced very well and the recordings are crystal clear. Margaret’s vocals brought a new warming and sexy level to metal, and probably will for a very long time to come. I give this album a 7.7/10. [ END ]
