Vaux

Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice (2006)

I’ve found that too many bands, such as Good Charlotte, try to use their music to sell their clothing lines… which is completely out of line. What happened to the days when rock music was made from the heart? What ever happened to the days where rock musicians wrote music because they needed to write? Well those days are back! Vaux plans on turning the industry around. This band writes for the fans, and for self-assurance. They do not write to make money!

First up on the album is “Identity Theft.” The lyrics to the track are pretty good and it sounds to me as if somebody has tried to take the singer’s life long work from him and claim it as his or her own. The instrumental here is fairly good.

Fourth on the album is “Need To Get By.” The intro is really slow, but helps to build anticipation. Once the lyrics begin, the bass gives off a riff that sounds really dark and really creepy; kinda makes the listener feel on edge. The guitar riff doesn’t sound too exciting though, but the song was still pretty good overall.

Ninth up on Beyond Virtue, Beyond Vice, is “Don’t Wait.” To me the lyrics sound as if something happened in the singer’s life that he hasn’t quite gotten over yet. The chorus goes, “Don’t wait for me, all in time. Don’t wait for me, I’ll be fine.” The guitar riff sounds pretty basic in the song, but the bridge is interesting though. It was a nice change from the rest of the song… gave it a new perspective.

Overall, the album wasn’t that bad, but the writing style does need some work. Vaux needs to put more of a variety in their instrumentals, and also need to add diversity to their lyrics. I give this album a 6.5/10
