Album Review
Dimmu Borgir
Stormblast MMV [Bonus DVD] (2006)
There’s probably a shit-load of stuff most people don’t know about the Norwegian Black Metal band, Dimmu Borgir. Well for one, do any of you know what Dimmu Borgir means? Well… it means Dark Citadel/Castle/Fortress; I prefer the Citadel one. Gotta love the Icelandic language, eh? Anyways! The current line-up for Dimmu Borgir is Shagrath (Vocals), Silenoz (Guitar), Mustis (Keyboard), ICS Vortex (Bass/Clean Vocals), Galder (Lead Guitar), and Hellhammer (Session Drums).
Now the album Stormblåst was fully re-recorded back in 2003, to be released in 2005. The band wanted to re-release this album because it is the album that basically set their careers into overdrive. The interesting thing about this album is that Stormblåst was the last album fully written and sung in Norwegian. And finally, we get to the album.
First up on the album is “Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen.” Unfortunately, I was unable to locate a translator to tell you what it means. Apparently it costs money to find a good translator. Well let’s get back on track… the song is fast-paced all the way throughout, not breaking the timing at all. The song has a little bit of a melodic feel about it and is somewhat entrancing.
Fourth on the album is “Sorgens Kammer – Del II.” This is one of the new tracks that they added to the album reissue. The band had to ditch the original track “Sorgens Kammer” due to copyright laws; I don’t actually know all of the details unfortunately. Well I figured out what Sorgens Kammer means; it means “Distress Chamber.” And I’m guessing Del II means Part II. Well anyways, the track sounds pretty damn good, but I will admit this song was a little bit on the boring side. The instrumental was a little bit repetitive too, but good even so.
Eighth on the album, and in my opinion, the best track on the album is “Antikrist.” Now most people can already guess what that translates into… Antichrist. Now the entire song is in Norwegian, so I can’t exactly tell you what the song is about, but I’m gonna take a stab at it, and guess that the song is about the coming of the Antichrist.
Taken as a whole, the album was recorded very well, and is much clearer than the original. I was slightly disappointed when they had to take out the original track “Sorgens Kammer,” but still, generally speaking, the album fucking kicked ass. I give Stormblåst MMV 9.1/10. [ END ]
