Bullistic

Chronicles of Love & Hate (2005)

Who knew heavy metal could come from Richmond, Virginia. Well folks it has, these four metal heads have just released their debut album, after forming nearly 5 years ago.

To get you in the mood, the album starts off with a good ol’ smack in the sucker. It’s pretty hard, and grabs your attention. The guitar riffs are evident and the vocals are indeed awesome. Doug Gibson can scream and still stay in tune.

The album hooks the listener in and locks them down.

The whole album sounds like a pure metal album; it incorporates all the metal elements such as guitar riffs, aggression, and experience. Since the inception of the band I’m pretty sure they’ve been playing gigs like crazy.

I don’t want to use the term “nu-metal”… this album is fresh and is indeed new, but stop the genre crossings dammit.

Every once in a while you get a cover song on an album; the band takes on “Stuck in the Middle” by Stealer’s Wheel. When a song starts off with a bass riff I’m sold. Something about the deepness of the notes gets me. The vocals are interesting; I thought the chorus was sung well.

I’m sure there will be a lot of comparisons, but not as a whole, each member pulls something memorable from a previous band and together forms Bullistic.

“Euology” reminds me of one of my favourite bands… drum roll please… Alice in Chains. It sounds bass heavy, and although he doesn’t quite sound like Layne, it seems to be a song that could be easily mistaken as an AIC tune. “Tired of You” would be the track that I would recommend to listen to. As a side note, bassist Craig Lague looks like the Undertaker in the liner notes. I can see the band touring along the likes of Black Label Society.

7.0 “ballistic kids” out of 10.  [ END ]
