The Chainsmokers – “Sick Boy” [Song Review]
A very simple yet solid track with an empowering message. Well-crafted lyrics deserve credit, and credit is given.
Dance music group The Chainsmokers have returned and released their first new track of 2018, “Sick Boy”. Based on a slow, mellow beat, the song creeps forward and includes a small base drop on a drum set, plus electronic synths combined with piano and violin sounds. It is definitely pop-leaning and radio-friendly, but also perfect for those days when you need a bit of a kick start to your morning.
The lyrics tackle where people come from, and how everyone is continuously criticized for who they are. The message seems to be, be yourself and build both your own character and approach to things, despite what society around you might dictate.
“And don’t believe the narcissism. When everyone projects. And expects you to listen to ’em. Make no mistake, I live in a prison. That I build myself, it is my religion. And they say that I am the sick boy.”
A very simple yet solid track with an empowering message. Well-crafted lyrics deserve credit, and credit is given.
