HEAL. – “Skylight” [Song Review]
Following off our featured stream of the band’s video, we weigh in on why “Skylight” is doing all sorts of nice things for us here at PGA.
Listeners to Heal.‘s single “Skylight” off the upcoming EP No Love, No Light will be suitably impressed by the Long Island outfit’s sonic dedication to a long line of metalcore greats, not least of which resonate with bands like Poison The Well and Misery Signals. That latter one makes sense, given that Gregory Thomas was the one who produced the release. It also makes sense then why this track is crushing.
It is a dismal subject for the lyrical content (that being one’s final hours, as explained by vocalist Ryan in their featured column with us here) and equally grueling is the tone that is achieved on this track.
If the single is any indication of how the rest of the EP will sound, then it’s clear this is something that any fan of 00’s hardcore and metalcore needs to scoop up heading into winter time. Most notable, is the group’s ability to play outside of usual tropes while simultaneously paying homage to bygone bands: it’s a familiar dinner, cooked by a stranger. It’s also palatable and intense and heavy as all hell.
Check out the band’s video for the album below, and keep your eyes peeled for their EP due out soon.
