The Godfathers – “A Big Bad Beautiful Noise” [Album Review]
Rowdy-as-fuck since 1985, the Coyne brothers in 2017 sound exactly like you’d imagine they did and wanted to twenty-two years ago.
Part of the beauty of this thing we love that is rock & roll is that there are bands out there who give the best part of their adult lives to the music. They don’t pander to trends or fashions, they just get together and bash out, for want of a better term, A Big Bad Beautiful Noise, which is exactly what London rockers The Godfathers have done.
Rowdy-as-fuck since 1985, the Coyne brothers in 2017 sound exactly like you’d imagine they did and wanted to twenty-two years ago. Sneering gobs of raucous rock & roll is what this is, nothing more, nothing less. Songs like “Defibrilator” and “Feedbacking” are prime examples of what The Godfathers are good at. Loud, attitude-filled slices of rock with easy-to-learn hooks and nothing too challenging to throw yourselves into.
Almost punk rock in their attitude, it’s easy to see why the band have won themselves an army of fans over the years and why, in 2017, they are still able to bash out quality albums like A Big Bad Beautiful Noise without having to worry about reinventing their sound and alienating half of their fanbase.
A Big Bad Beautiful Noise is exactly that and, after twenty odd years, why would you want anything else from your favourite band?
