Inert – “Obliteration of the Self” [EP] [Album Review]
Even though this is their virgin effort, Inert sound salty enough.
Inert is self-described as a “two-headed monster that eats and breathes good ol’ tasty death metal.” Well, I can see that… Let me enhance this further. These two dudes worship the Entombed tone lord and sound like a pissed off Cthulhu that originates from Sweden.
While listening to the EP opener, “Fake Servant of God”, the first thing that comes to mind is Entombed. That’s not a bad thing, especially for a band that is straight out of the gates of hell. It has a solid D-beat groove and the riffs are easy to follow. The vocals are a mesh of any Swedish death metal band from the ’90s and the drums follow a predictable formula from that era as well. As with most Swedish death metal bands, the bass is an afterthought. Other than not finding their own niche, I really dig the tune.
Even though this is their virgin effort, Inert sound salty enough. These dudes know what they’re doing, can play their instruments, know how to write a catchy riff, and can capture their sound on a recording very well. Well done, dudes, well done. I’m looking forward to hearing more.
