The Skinny: Omicida (which means “killer” in Italian) are a very new Los Angeles, CA-based old school thrash metal band that, well, for lack of better words, FUCKING SHRED! Though new, this quintet is teeming with talent and features ex-White Wizzard drummer and founder Giovanni Durst (drums) and Will Wallner (guitars), along with ex-Devil You Know member Roy LaVari (guitars).

We’re totally pumped on the group’s material and, as evidenced on this exclusive premiere of their song “Star Striped Death”, the dual shred guitar work is outstanding! Said Giovanni Durst (drums and band founder) about the song: “S.S.D. was actually the first track I ever started writing and the first lyrics I wrote for this EP… Probably the most controversial one. It speaks about war in a way that may or may not make some people angry… freedom of speech I guess.

“These lyrics are abut the struggle of a soldier being sent to war on the front line. The two verses describe his last moments on the war field leading him to the ultimate sacrifice. But in terms of meaning it goes beyond that. It’s about the dirty political background that there is behind war in general. Sending kids to die for pure political\economical interests masked behind the greater american dream of freedom. It’s about fear and terror of not being able to go back home to your family and loved ones. Still though there is a certain darker attraction to the art of war and death.

“In conclusion this song is a hymn to the american military super power and a statement about how war has no good ending for anyone. It’s a loss of life and a greater sacrifice asked upon people and families in the name of freedom in a country where not everyone can enjoy yet.”
