Eli Young Band – Turn It On – EP Review
By Pia Cabrera
If you are a country music fan, chances are you must know the chart-topping Eli Young Band. A full week before the official release of their new EP Turn It On, they offered fans an advance listen to their new music via VEVO. The EP contains 4 catchy and up-tempo country tracks, sounding completely different from the band’s previous records.
The talented foursome straight out Texas includes members Mike Eli (vocals, guitar), James Young (guitar), Jon Jones (bass guitar), and Chris Thompson (drums). The Grammy nominated band is not new to being No.1 on the country music charts, thanks to hits like, “Drunk Last Night, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” and “Crazy Girl”. At this stage of their music career they are ready to record songs that are more fun to play live and to listen to, and that’s what their new EP Turn It On is all about.
The lead-off single ‘Turn It On’, has a lively groove that is unlike anything else on country radio today. The catchy chorus will have you singing along with lyrics of “turn it off, turn it on.” The band seems to be leaning toward a more country pop sound in tracks like, “Drink You Up”. They also talk about female beauty, relationships and love in tracks like “Plastic” and “Your Place Or Mine”.
With their new music, they are sure to attract new fans, including some that are not fans of country music. It’s great to see a country band that isn’t afraid to step out of the box to try something new.
