Scream: “The Punk Band is Back!”
Punk band Scream has been kicking around for almost 30 years. At the height of their career they were touring Europe and attracting thousands of fans. Now after a long absence, they’re back with a new EP entitled Hailux. This EP was produced by none other than former Scream drummer and current Foo Fighter frontman, Dave Grohl. Also, Scream guitarist and vocalist Franz Stahl temporarily replaced Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear for two years.
This interconnected history between Grohl and the members of Scream provided for an authentic and familial environment while producing the new EP.
Hailux is a breath of fresh air! The album seems to have abandoned the grungy 80’s sound that Scream originally embodied as a punk band, and has adopted a more progressive, and instrumentally distinct sound. Less distortion, and a more melodic tone gives this album an indie-punk feel. Scream has come into their own and it’s clear that their sound has flourished.
Scream still holds true to their punk origins and the third track “Jamin at 606” is a powerful, speedy song that pays tribute to recording at Grohl’s Studio 606. “Stopwatch”, the first track off the EP reveals instantly that Scream is far from washed up; they know what they’re doing and they’re doing it well. They’ve been playing several shows across the U.S.A; their first show after many years was at the Black Cat nightclub in Washington, D.C. Scream also played the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles where the Foo Fighter’s revealed their new album, Wasting Light.
