Album Review
Blackguard – “Firefight”
Blackguard are one of the hardest working bands in metal today. Since the release of their album Profugus Mortis the group has not stopped touring; destroying every stage on which they perform. Though their road warrior lifestyle has resulted in the loss of a few members along the way, Blackguard has been able to garner a strong following and their continued drive seems to result in exciting new music.
Their latest effort Firefight presents a new sound that the band has dubbed “epic metal”. Surprisingly, on this release Blackguard didn’t carry over their existing folk elements; which led them to focus predominantly on the guitars. The six strings thrash and solo through every song giving the music a more powerful sound. To add to this mix Paul Ablaze once again overlays his pyro screams which scorch the airwaves.
Blackguard has changed for the best; their music now better suits the chaotic shows they’re known for. Check them out live and if you’re a fan of The Autumn Offering, Jungle Rot, Dead To Fall and/or Arise And Ruin, you will have your face melted by Blackguard.
