Arctic Monkeys – “Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair” [Song Review]
Alex Turner and Co. are back with the lead single off of their upcoming release Suck It and See, and once again expectations will be high for the Sheffield boys. North American’s may have trouble giving a sh*t about what these guys put out, but in Britain they are without a doubt the biggest group from the guitar-rock explosion of the early 2000’s. While Franz Ferdinand went MIA, Bloc Party seemed to plateau with the first record, and countless others (The Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs etc.) just plain sucked, Arctic Monkeys have managed to retain their swagger…

North American’s may have trouble giving a sh*t about what these guys put out, but in Britain they are without a doubt the biggest group from the guitar-rock explosion of the early 2000’s. While Franz Ferdinand went MIA, Bloc Party seemed to plateau with the first record, and countless others (The Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs etc.) just plain sucked, Arctic Monkeys have managed to retain their swagger and grow into an impossibly huge act.
“Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair” goes the traditional route of going American – a la The Clash and Rolling Stones – and pulling it off with more swagger than most home-grown groups. The Josh Homme influence on the track is palpable, which is indicative of the desert-rock vibe the song gives off. It’s not necessarily an amazing song, but the allure of one of Britain’s biggest acts donning American rock shouldn’t be lost on its audience. If Arctic Monkeys begin sounding a lot more like Queens of the Stone Age I don’t think many people this side of the Atlantic will complain.
