Alerion
Turn Of Fate [Promo] (02.22.2009)
Alerion is a female fronted Progressive Metal band from The Netherlands who boast beautiful, almost ethereal vocals layered over top of a some very good guitar playing.
Let me start by saying that I was only privy to two songs here as this is simply a promo disc, showcasing what is to come. As a result my critique is more than likely slightly skewed, but hey, I can only review what I have, right?
With all of that being said, the title track “Turn Of Fate” is a decent song. I really like the vocals on this track and as mentioned earlier the guitars, especially the solos, are fantastic. On the down side the song is over seven minutes long and at such a slow tempo it never really seems to go anywhere, it was hard to stay focused and involved in the tune.
The same thing can be said about the second song. While the playing is good, it is entirely to sedated for me and once again appears to go nowhere. I hope to hear the rest of the disc in the near future and maybe that will change my mind a bit, but based on the tracks I have I would have to say that this is decent at best and not very memorable.
