Blue Kubricks Offer a “Heroin” Fix with Their New Song [Premiere]
Are you ready for a shot of musical “Heroin?” Good, because it’s the only type you should be taking right now. Now that we’re in agreement, let’s get on with the show! Welcome the premiere of Leeds, UK’s Blue Kubricks’ brand new single, “Heroin,” which is officially due for release on April 10th. That day will also hopefully coincide with the band’s big gig at 360 Club in Leeds.
The quartet is set to be there in full force, propelled by their alternative funk rock that they have been perfecting since they started playing as very young children. With an eight-year history now of writing and recording, they’re quite confident in their collective abilities and the sound they’ve developed which could be thought of as a thrashy cross between Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Libertines.
Here to make sense of the new song is Blue Kubricks singer Jim Duah who stated, “‘Heroin’ was about a couple of people that I knew, who in a cognitive dissonance, did and fundamentally did not understand the concept of music. About abusing both the craft and the concept. They would idolize musicians and replicate only their chemically hedonistic behaviour, filling in a well of vast talent and artistic prosperity. One of my absolute idols, whose name I will not elucidate, formed the basis of my musical foundations through such unrivaled sonic beauty, yet he consciously discards it by the wayside in pursuit of an ideological turmoiled soil. Like a really unconvincing 5 pound drag act. He started doing heroin and threw his raison d’être in the confines of an alternate, and dichotomized discarded history. A shame, really.”
Like so many bands and the current predicament they face, Blue Kubricks were psyched to be starting a spring and summer tour soon, which has been postponed in light of the present COVID-19 pandemic. They managed to complete one show before they had to forego the rest. They still have a couple of shows on the schedule and hope to reschedule the rest once they have more clarity on the situation. Let’s hope that tour comes as soon as possible!
