King Park – “Clouds” [Free Song Download]

King Park is an indie-rock quartet that specializes in moody, shimmering tunes that combine elements of post-rock, shoegaze, and emo. It’s hard to pin down their exact sound, but that’s always a good thing. With the full-length Everett due out in 2020, King Park recently dropped a gripping single – “Clouds,” out March 13th – to preview the album’s taut potential. These dudes have been building to this since their debut track, “Stay,” dropped in 2017, and they have a great mix of edginess and practiced subtlety to carry them into the future.

In order to attune more minds to their stylish sounds, the band is offering the track “Clouds” as a free download. On the tune, the band says, “‘Clouds’ is weighty and ominous, and it’s supposed to be. A lot of people raised religious live inside a fenceline of restrictions. All of which can get in the way of romance, and maybe even God too.”

The song pulses along a knife’s edge of calculated musicality, seeming at once ambient and organic while remaining driven, precise, and emphatic. Never careening too heavily into the song’s angsty vibes, “Clouds” is a poignant and mature exploration of the inevitable occurrence of getting in one’s own way. Enjoy the song, and keep your ears open for more from this Hamilton, Ontario-based group.
