Everything Everything – ‘Mountainhead’ [Album Review]
The songs on ‘Mountainhead,’ the new drop from Everything Everything, will remind you not to take yourself so seriously, to appreciate things other than the material.
On March 1st, Everything Everything releases their seventh album, Mountainhead. At first, the 14-track recording highlights the instrumentals in the first song, “Wild Guess.” As the album progresses through techno, robotic, and, at times, floaty vibes, lead singer Jonathan Higg’s voice conveys the highs and lows.
This album cycles through a whirlwind of emotions but remains generally positive and sounds optimistic musically, even with a darker overall message. The band explains that the album is intended to be a critique of late-stage capitalism and a general questioning of what our culture is developing into.
One can appreciate the use of echoing voices and choir-esque feel that many of these songs possess, especially being such a stark juxtaposition from each piece’s edgy, electronica sound.
These songs will remind you not to take yourself so seriously, to appreciate things other than the material- especially with an eye towards nature, and to remain positive and present. The album comes at a particularly apt time when people might need each of these individual reminders.
Don’t forget to pay particular notice to the tracks: “Wild Guess,” “Enter the Mirror,” “City Song” and “Don’t Ask Me to Beg.” Absolutely give Mountainhead a listen!
