tripliciti Premiere Their Fingerstyle-Focused “Memento Vivere” Music Video
Fingerstyle guitar experts Tripliciti premiere the music video for their new instrumental track “Memento Vivere.”
Specialized just about sums up things perfectly when it comes to tripliciti. This supergroup of distinguished musicians is overjoyed to be unveiling the music video for their latest single, “Memento Vivere.” It’s from the band’s upcoming self-titled debut album, set for release on April 4th. The video clip is a laid-back affair, but that’s all by design to emphasize what’s special about this trio.
As you witness in the video, each member of the band is a master at fingerstyle guitar. For you guitar newbies out there, fingerstyle is a specialized technique of guitar playing that’s focused on plucking the strings directly with one’s fingertips or fingernails. It creates certain unique sonic textures and melodies that can’t be mimicked with traditional flatpicking guitar playing.
Offering his insights on the song’s composition and its deeper significance, Gordon Hall tells us:
“As we embarked on our collaboration, initially ‘sitting in’ on each other’s known songs, I began to contemplate our sound and the possibilities of exploring new compositional territories. I composed this piece on the high-strung guitar, envisioning how Andy and Calum (Graham) would complement and expand upon it, and they absolutely nailed it! For me, this marks a bold step into the new path of writing original songs for Tripliciti.
“The title, ‘Memento Vivere,’ derives its inspiration from the contrasting yet related phrase of the ancient maxim ‘Memento Mori,’ which means ‘remember mortality’ or ‘remember that you will one day die.’ It serves as a reminder to savor the present moment. Each of us carries a ‘Memento Mori’ coin, and it has become a unifying concept within our group. So, we thought it fitting to use the phrase ‘Memento Vivere’ to encapsulate the essence of this composition. In addition to being musical collaborators, we are also close friends, which makes this piece all the more special to us.”
Telling us more about “Memento Vivere,” Andy McKee says:
“‘Memento Vivere’ has the distinction of being the only entirely new composition on the album. Trevor (Gordon Hall) brought it in for us all to work on and I just loved it right away. It has a way of enchanting you, it’s almost more like a spell than a piece of music. For my part I wanted to simply add some rhythmic chordal accompaniment and a small lead in the middle.”
What immediately stands out about tripliciti is the tremendous chemistry that binds the band together. McKee may be perhaps more well-known, but Graham and Gordon Hall have also been vital to developing fingerstyle guitar as a technique and an art form. Acoustic music tends to be stripped down and simplified, but nothing is simplified regarding what these three gentlemen are cooking up.
The inspiration behind joining together came from their individual travels around the world. Each member has a well-established career. However, the prospect of conjoining those talents seemed like a prospect too good to pass up. Musically, they can blend elements of Americana, jazz, Flamenco, and rock. tripliciti view this endeavour as a celebration of the most iconic instrument in the world, a musical trip to a place others dare not consider going.
