Chandra – “Smile (No Fox Gibbon)” [Song Review]
Drenched in pop-rock oomph with faint hints of punk-rock running through it, “Smile (No Fox Gibbon)” is a fun, feel-good song.
Hailing from Bristol, UK, pop-rock artist Chandra recently unveiled his new single/music video, “Smile (No Fox Gibbon),” a song about not worrying what others think of you.
Chandra explains, “Let’s all let go and smile like there are absolutely no fucks given.”
“Smile (No Fox Gibbon)” follows on the heels of Chandra’s previous singles, “Pretty” and “Lighters To The Sky,” both of which reveal his musical influences, ranging from Bowie, Queen, The Carpenters, The Beatles, Britney Spears, P!nk, One Republic, and Sam Fender.
Chandra writes songs dealing with the human condition: self-doubt, confidence, and mental health. He believes the more he sings about such taboo topics, the freer people will feel to talk about them. He encourages being nice to one another, believing in yourself, and finding the confidence to be yourself.
“Smile (No Fox Gibbon)” opens on Bon Jovi-like guitars topped by Chandra’s slightly raspy voice, imbuing the lyrics with buoyant energy. A tight, pop-rock rhythm gives the tune vibrant oomph, building to an escalating chorus full of surging, glowing colors.
The video, directed by Chandra, depicts three men dressed in animal costumes. Initially, the trio resembles gloomy Guses. As the song proceeds, they experiment with letting their inner joy out despite what is considered appropriate.
Drenched in pop-rock dynamics with faint hints of punk-rock running through it, “Smile (No Fox Gibbon)” is a fun, feel-good song.
