Mastiff – ‘Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth’ [Album Review]
‘Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth’ is thirty-two minutes of five people unleashing their anger issues through music.
A good press release hooks you in to an album before you’ve even hit play and that’s exactly what happened with Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth from UK haters Mastiff. “Mastiff would be listening and saying ’well we fucking hate everyone and everything..including you’”. That’s me sold then.
Opening with “The Hiss”, an ominous, bleak four-minute intro, nothing prepares you for the hellish onslaught that follows. An absolute racket of an album, Leave Me To The Ashes Of The Earth mixes the chaos of Napalm Death, the sludgy filth of Crowbar and the unhinged violence of Nails into one big ball of FUCK YOU! “Midnight Creeper” is just two minutes of full-throttle rage. “Beige Sabbath” is more of the same. Horrible! Horrible! Horrible!
There’s simply not one pleasant thing you can say about this album. Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth is the sound you make when you genuinely do hate everybody, this isn’t record label generated faux-hate just for the sake of shifting records. Take “Scalped” for example. Just sit and digest those three minutes forty-nine seconds and tell me that isn’t the sound of five people collectively unleashing their anger issues through music? Then, just to push you over the edge, Leave Me The Ashes Of The Earth closes off with seven minutes of musical hell. By three minutes in, your ears will be bleeding, by five minutes you’ll be starting to weep, by the time the seven minutes is up, you’re guaranteed to be rocking in the corner of a room, crying uncontrollably in your own filth.
There isn’t much else to say about this album really. It’s a horrible, unpleasant listen from a band who just don’t give a fuck about you or what you think about their music and comes highly recommended from me!
