Perfect Female Type – “Turning Back To You” [Song Review]

Synthwave artist Perfect Female Type, aka Jason Herrboldt, releases his new single, “Turning Back To You,” featuring the lush, intoxicating vocals of Katie Burke. (We previously premiered the single “Science of Love.”)

“Turning Back To You” confronts the harm of becoming entwined with manipulative, controlling lovers, forging an anthem of recapturing personal power.

Prior to navigating a course into the shimmering, pulsating world of synthwave, Herrboldt explored the musical avenues of drum & bass, techno, and nu-jazz. His Perfect Female Type project shifts his contagious sound, allowing his gifts for production and composition to shine as he blends elements of ’80s pop-rock and synthwave.

The intro of “Turning Back To You” conjures up suggestions of Stevie Nicks’ “Stand Back,” with its chugging bassline and gleaming layers of synths, infusing the melody with throbbing sheens of color and pressure. Burke’s voice, simultaneously bewitching and tinted with defiant nuances, imbues the lyrics with bold flavors as she declares her independence.
